Spring Hockey

We have the following spring hockey teams:

• 2008's
• 2010's
• 2012's

We have room for a 2014 team this year pending interest.

Our spring hockey season runs April 1st to June 5th

(pending last tournament)

Aside from our PHL team's ID skates, the Select's do not hold tryouts. For two reasons, 

1. Each player is personally selected by our scouting team. By the time you have received an invite from us, we have already watched you play, and talked to your coach to see if you would be a good fit.
2. Once you're on a team, that position is yours until you decide not to play. So our turnover is very low.

There will come a time in a young player's hockey journey where they may be trying out for a team and not know a single person in that pressing room.

We teach players how to navigate this process by trusting in your ability, playing your position and becoming a team player, one where your teammates can count on you as a team player.

Because of our unique dynamics, Selects’ Hockey has fostered many new friendships, and friendly rivalries on the ice during the season. Its great to see players from opposing teams meet up center ice after 60 minutes of play to chat and fist bump, no matter who won. 

Without a doubt, my favorite part of this Club, is every year watching new kids walk into our dressing rooms without knowing anyone, and they end the season with 19 new friends. 

 Our teams are made up of players from all over SE Alberta and SW Saskatchewan.

As a general rule we do not take more than 4 players per location. In 2023, we had players from 17 different towns/cities across 3 teams

We look for diverse players.

Starting January we have a scouting team that scours Southeast Albert and Southwest Saskatchewan for diverse players that we feel will work well within our teams.  These players will have specific attributes that the scouts are looking for at that time.  This means that we don’t look for the best of the best, we look for players with individual talents that will help the team.  Ie: not the best backwards skater but can toss that saucer from the blueline to the back of the net? Excellent!

We are Co-Ed

We believe in position specific coaching. Each team will have a minimum of 4 coaches.

• Head Coach
• Defense Coach, 
• Forwards coach, and 
• Goalie support/dryland coach

You can expect 

• 2 practices a week
• dryland 1-2x a week
• at home dryland if you can't make it to class
• 2-3 Classroom sessions (on practice days)
• 2 tournaments (one at home tournament this year)

Your player will receive

• Dryland gear 
• Hoodie
• Home & Away Jersey (returned at end of season)
• Socks
• 2 tournaments (one at home tournament this year)
• Year end party
